Week 3

This week we had to learn about the live blog feeder called Feedly. In today's society that is so technologically savvy, a creation such as Feedly is very useful and popular, especially amongst the younger generation. Businesses and individuals are always trying to stay up to date on the most recent social networks since it is the easiest way to get your product, opinion etc. out in the public to be seen by many. Feedly offers a creative way for people to get their message out, therefore, there is always new blogs and articles being posted for readers to explore on Feedly.

This is great for the majority of us because many of us are very busy all the time trying to juggle school, work and any other extra activities that we do. Feedly constantly updates its live feed with new articles so that it is easy for the reader to find information that they are interested about. The information is so easy to find too since Feedly lets you customize your profile and put your feeds into categories. Being able to search key words and trending topics also allows you to explore Feedly with ease and find the topics that you personally are interested in reading about. You can then choose to share articles you like on other social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook. This allows information to travel very far very fast, which is a good way to share knowledge that may help others too.

Feedly also allows you to notice the importance of digital responsibility. Feedly makes it evident how far and fast information you put on the internet can go, and therefore, you should always post responsibly. Furthermore, Feedly allows you to recognize that everyone's blog etc. is their own personal digital footprint and that they have the right to make it special and not have it copied.

After exploring Feedly a little more I came across this article that interested me personally:

Body building Meals in 5 minutes

Living a healthy lifestyle has its challenges, and eating healthy may be hard in such a busy life we all live. I came across an article explaining how to make nutritious and healthy meals in only 5 minutes. Eating healthy has many positive affects on the body, such as cardiovascular health, cognitive tissue repair and helps fight against illness such as cancer and diabetes. Unfortunately, with so many things going on in ones life such as school, work and social life, many fail to prepare meals. The article explains how to cook well rounded meals including all three macro-nutrients (protein, carbohydrates and fats) in 5 minutes. This is very useful article because it allows for us busy people to be able to eat healthy and improve are health and longevity.

The article is very helpful in my life because I am a full time student, work part time and a National level Men's Physique body builder. The lifestyle I live being a Men's Physique competitor at the national level, it is essential for me to eat healthy. Being able to prepare healthy meals that contribute to my lifestyle and fit into my diet in only 5 minutes is very beneficial and time saving. Now that I have a number of meals that only take 5 minutes to make at my disposal, I will be able to eat healthy when I am in a rush. Also, the meals are inexpensive and is cheaper than buying a fast food meal.

My Experience with RSS Feeds

Brock PhD grad delves into the study of sleep

The first article I read on my new Feedly was from The Brock News and was based on a former Brock student. In the article, Royette Tavernier shares how she discovered her continuous topic of research on sleep. I found it very interesting how she found her fascination with sleep simply through her interactions and time spent with others on a conference trip one year while she was at Brock. It is amazing that by just noticing the daily environment around you, you can create a whole life path for yourself, which you are passionate about. Tavernier's found interest in people's sleep patterns led her to make her master's research about how Canadian students cope with life adjustments, and then led her to be able to study the role that sleep plays for overall wellbeing and adjustment among university students for her PhD. Now Tavernier gets to study alongside Dr. Adam at Northwestern University. Dr. Adam is a developmental  psychologist and an expert in the developmental psychobiology of stress and sleep, which provides a great opportunity for Tavernier to further her research.

Not only did I find Tavernier's story inspiring but I also learnt something from the article. Tavernier taught me that my relationships with my friends and peers are very important for my sleep because the social support that they provide will help me to deal with any emotional distress that I may have from university life.

Jesse T ADED 1P32 Week 2

Reflection
After viewing the video and reading the text book, I understood that a digital footprint is the mark left behind by a person on the Internet. From the various of examples, like from the video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79IYZVYIVLA&feature=youtu.be) it explains that a digital dossier is present in ones life before birth. A digital dossier gathers abundant of information from ones life through means of social media such as Facebook, and started as young as the children websites everyone used such as Neopets. The topic was of huge interest to me because it made me realize that a huge portion of our lives are shared on the Internet and may be available for future employers. I feel it is important as students and future employees not to post anything that may affect ones reputation. Having  information of ones self readily available on the Internet makes it easy for employers to search one up and view apps such as twitter where most young people post without discretion. Digital nétiquette/ etiquette is a set of commands that should be followed that creates an respectful safe and prosperous environment on the Internet. Also explaining that one should be as cautious on the Internet such as they are in real life. Not breaking any laws, forms of conducts we do in society should be parallel to how we act online. Even though it may sound corny "treat others how you want to be treated"(http://www.albion.com/netiquette/corerules.html).

Report
After completing the digital license quiz i received a perfect score. This came to  surprise to be because I do not spend large amounts of time on my lap top or other social networks. However being a sociology and criminology student, I study the law and social world and I understand that the law is in place to protect society. I feel the same with the social medias I use such as Facebook and twitter and Instagram that I should follow the terms and regulations because it is in place to protect the cyber world.
